Online marketing has opened a lot of doors and opportunities for marketers. Often hard to reach market niches is a thing of the past.  Due to the advancement in internet technology, it is now even easier for companies to filter the market. Even the methods on how to research a niche has become highly specialized. But no matter how advance and how the methodologies in marketing has changed because of this advancement, marketers can’t deny the fact that for a company, finding your niche market is still the most important in marketing, and online marketing is no different.

It is no different than in the conventional marketing. It is very difficult for any one product or service to try and target all there is in a market. You have to be able to choose the part of the market that you will focus on, and build all your strategies based on that market segment or niche. The reason behind this is very logical. If you have your target market in mind, it is easier for you to analyze their behavior. And knowing their preferences and how they react to new products and services is the best way for you to know if you should stick to your old product, improve on it, or create an entirely different product. These decisions are very big in a company and will only be exercised correctly if the information that the decision is based on is indeed accurate and relevant. The role of market research is therefore invaluable when you look at it in this perspective.

Another aspect of online marketing after you have developed your target market is by word of mouth. It might seem odd that something so advanced, would still depend on antiquated methods—but it’s not. Word of mouth has been considered a very good way to sell a product or service, it still does work, and it will continue to work in the future. Online marketing doesn’t supersede the old ways of marketing. It merely makes things more efficient. Imagine now that people don’t even have to call their friends to tell them about a product that they’re excited about. They can just send to all the people in their address book and it’s done in just a click of a button. The same way that it is a good way to build reputation, marketers are also more careful now in dealing with every customer since this faster version of word of mouth can work in their disadvantage as well.
